Believe it or not, there isn’t a secret recipe for success. Truly, success comes from commitment, time, and possibly a bit of luck. You never know when your blog might get picked up by a major news portal that can attract a lot of attention to it and possibly give your blog a big boost. Sometimes, success is a matter of being in the right place at the right time — the nearby sidebar “Perez Hilton’s lucky break” describes one celebrity blogger’s rise to stardom. However, for most bloggers, success comes with persistence. Here are some tips:
Pick a topic people are interested in. The potential size of your blog’s audience is directly related to the number of people who are interested in the topic you’re writing about. However, you should know that just because you pick a popular topic doesn’t mean that your blog will receive a flood of visitors. You also have to pick a blog topic that isn’t already covered repeatedly online. If you do pick a topic that has already been overdone, make sure to put a unique spin on your content so that it stands out in the crowded blogosphere.

Pick a topic you’re passionate about. Remember that because successful blogs are updated frequently, you have to write about your blog’s topic continually and for a long time. Make sure that you have the stamina to stick with it.

Be social. This is the biggest key to blogging success. From the tone of your blog posts to your responsiveness to comments posted on your blog and e-mail sent to you based on your blog’s content, you need to be friendly and constantly work to build relationships. Those efforts don’t stop on your own blog. You also need to visit other blogs and leave relevant comments, visit forums, join user groups, and more to get the word out about your blog and build relationships with other bloggers.

Keep learning. Successful bloggers never stop learning about new blogging tools and concepts, their blog topics, and their audiences. The more knowledge you have, the better equipped you are to take your blog to the next level.

Take risks. Don’t be afraid to be creative. Try new blogging features and functions, inject some unique content into your blog posts, or change the layout of your home page. You never know what might work. Just make sure to track the results so that you know what works (and what doesn’t work) to bring you closer to meeting your goals.

Every blogger has her own definition of blogging success. Before you start your blog, define your success metrics. Do you want to get specific results, such as sales or business contacts? Do you want to attract a certain number of visitors? Do you want to make a certain dollar amount from your blog? Do you want to network and build relationships and create an online pres-ence that leads to other opportunities? Or do you simply want to have fun? Write down your blogging goals and return to them every few months to see whether you’re on track to meeting them, whether you need to make some changes to get there, or whether you want to rewrite them completely. Only then can you find and achieve your own blogging success.

Blogger Intro

Pyra Labs launched Blogger in 1999 as one of the first programs dedicated
completely to blogging. At the time, blogging was in its infancy, and the three
Web developers who created Blogger had no idea what their product would
grow to become.

Blogger is often credited with helping to boost blogging into the mainstream.
By offering an easy-to-use and easily accessible blogging platform, people
slowly began to realize how much power blogging could deliver. Terms such
as user-generated content, citizen journalism, and social Web became part of
the common vernacular, and people (and businesses) from all walks of life
wanted to jump on the blogging bandwagon.

But what exactly is a blogging platform? In the simplest terms, a blogging plat-
form (or blogging software) is the computer program that does all the work
behind the scenes to publish your content on the Internet. You type the con-
tent into your blogging software, such as Blogger, WordPress, or TypePad,
and the blogging software creates a Web site where your content resides (see
Figure 1-1). The blogging software formats your content, dates it, archives it,
and more. Suddenly, having a Web site was no longer a possibility only for
businesses with a budget to burn. With the birth of blogging and the popular-
ity of Blogger, anyone could have an online presence, become a blogger, and
join an online community that would come to be known as the blogosphere.

Blogger simply gives your blog a home online. Imagine Blogger as a banquet
hall. As host, Blogger offers a location for various people to create and store
their blogs just as a banquet hall gives people a place to hold events. What
happens on your blog and the success of your blog depends on you.

Unlike a traditional Web site that offers a static message, a blog works more
like an online diary with posts published in reverse chronological order. In
this way, blogs tell a story, and that story is completely up to the blogger,
who has the freedom to write and publish anything he wants. Although blogs
started out as very simple online diaries, they grew to be much more. Blogs
are still used now by many people simply for fun, but they are also used by
people who try to earn an income from them, launch a new career, or build a
business, for example. The opportunities that blogs create are seemingly end-
less. It’s all up to the blogger.

Of course, some unwritten rules of the blogosphere and secrets to success
exist, such as posting frequency, networking, and creating compelling con-
tent. However, a blog is the product of the blogger and evolves the way the
blogger desires. At its core, blogging is a simple concept. It requires little to
no monetary investment but could potentially demand a great deal of sweat
equity.

Blogger

So you made the decision to start a blog. Blogger is a perfect tool to you publish your thoughts, ideas, and opinions as part of the grow blogosphere. Astoundingly, this service is free. Last time I looked, TinyURL had more than 185 million hits a month. Talk about traffic! In part, a service like TinyURL works to generate ad revenue because it is so targeted. If you go to the site, you’ll find Google AdSense content ads for things like DNS (Do- main Name Server) services and software that fixes technology problems with browsers. In other words, technology that addresses the problems of reasonably savvy web users is likely to be contextually relevant to the concerns of visitors to TinyURL. Enough users click these ads to more than justify the startup cost and ongoing costs of main taining the URL conversion service.

Tags: Free Service,Free,URL,Traffic

Show AdSense Ads After First or Every Post in Wordpress Blogs

Long time back, I wrote about showing Google AdSense ads after each post in blogger.com blogs. Now I am doing exactly opposite by limiting ads to only first post on home, archives, categories pages. Johnson wants to know how I am doing it!
To do this, You need to edit famous wordpress loop. Such a loop can be found in your current wordpress theme’s index.php. There may be other files present in your theme directory which uses loop like archives.php. They may need to be updated as well.
Listed below are steps to edit loop in index.php file. Similar steps can be performed for other files too, if required.
1. Go to Wordpress Dashboard >>Design >> Theme Editor.
2. Click on index.php or Main Index Template file. It will open in Theme Editor on left.
3. Find a line:
<?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
4. Add before it:
<?php $adcount = 1; ?>
5. So final code will look:

<?php $adcount = 1; ?>
<?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
6. Now find:
<?php endwhile; ?>
7. Add before it:
<?php $adcount++; ?>
8. So final code will look:
<?php $adcount++; ?>
<?php endwhile; ?>
9. Now inside loop, i.e. after “while” line but before “endwhile” line put your AdSense codes. Exact location depend on your choice between ads before post, ads after post, etc. Important thing is you have to put your AdSense code in a if-block. below is an example…

<?php if ($adcount == 1) : ?>
<!-- Put Your AdSense Code here -->
<?php endif; $adcount++; ?>
That’s it. Save changes and check if it works.

Variations…
1. If you want to put ads after first two post…
In step 9 code, Change $adcount == 1 to $adcount == 2
2. If you want to put ads after first three post…
In step 9 code, Change $adcount == 1 to $adcount == 3
3. If you want to put ads after each post…
In step 9 code, Change $adcount == 1 to $adcount == 3. Yes this is same like above. Because AdSense only
allows maximum three ad-units on a a single page. This way you avoid blank space created after each post
when you directly put AdSense code after each post.

If you need any help, or stuck at some point, feel free to contact via comment.

Customizing the Read More

If you have set your WordPress site to display post excerpts on the front or home page, you will want visitors to click on the title or a link to encourage them to continue reading your post or article, right? WordPress makes this technique easy, and customizable.

Excerpts show up on WordPress through two methods. One, by replacing the template tag the_content() with the_excerpt(). Then the explicit excerpt you have entered in the Administration > Write > Post SubPanel will appear, or the first 55 words of the post's content. Users can then click on the title to continue reading more as you have enticed them with your summary introduction. The most commonly used method is to keep the_content() template tag and insert a quicktag called more into your post at your desired "cut-off" point.

The quicktags are the little buttons found above the editing window in your Administration > Write > Post SubPanel. They include bold, italic, links, and others, and the famous more. Put your cursor where you want to end the excerpted content of your post and click the more quicktag button. It will insert a code at that point that looks like this:

Using Proper Keyword Density

he goal of search-engine optimization is to make sure that your Web site ranks at the top of the search results when high-converting, target keywords related to your product or service are typed into popular search engines as search queries. Using proper
keyword density is a process that includes the strategic repetition of select, target keywords and the minimization of nontarget keywords throughout your content, so that search engines deem your Web site relevant to search queries that you want to rank for. Proper keyword density is a fundamental component of on-site search- engine optimization. By using available tools to maximize optimal keyword density, you can incorporate a substantial number of target keywords through your content without compromising the natural flow of the writing.
Keyword density tools allow you to minimize the over repetition of nontarget keywords, while ensuring that you have the proper density of your target keywords.

WeBuildPages.com offers one of the most user-friendly and powerful keyword density tools, located at www.webuildpages.com/seo-tools/keyword-density. This tool provides a keyword density analysis of any Web site you request. The process is as easy as typing a URL, selecting basic preferences, and clicking Go. The We Build Pages keyword density tool breaks down occurrences of two- and three-word terms, displaying them as density percentages. The tool can ignore terms of less than two words, eliminating words like the, and, and of from the analysis. If you want to exclude or include other parameters after your initial breakdown, go to the bottom of the page and reset the preferences. Keyword density tools can help you to gain useful competitive research information on your competition. Once you identify the competitors that rank #1 for the keywords you want to rank for, use the keyword density
tool to look for similarities among them that you can use to also rank we

Twitter in Actions

Twitter is a tool that allows you to quickly communicate and share news with your friends and within the Twitter community. For example, if you manage a music Web site, you can use Twitter to break news about concerts and entertainment gossip. To promote yourself or your Web site, you can simply include a tag at the end of each message such as “Brought to you by X.com.”

You can send any of your friends a private message using Twitter. To send a friend a text message, click Message from the Twitter profile page or simply click Direct Messages and choose the recipient from the drop-down box. If you want to send a private message from your phone, use the following command: D + username + message. Note that a person’s username and screen name may be different. To ensure that your private message is sent to the proper person, you can verify the accuracy of the person’s username by going to her profile page and looking at the URL at the top of the page. Micro-blogging is a form of blogging that allows you to write brief text updates, usually less than 200 characters, and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group you choose. Micro-blogging is a form of social networking that enables you to keep your followers up-to-date with what you are doing at any given time of the day.
The most widely used micro-blogging network is Twitter. Twitter, located at www.twitter.com, is a free social networking service that allows you to micro-blog by sending short “updates” of 140 characters or less to others via a text message from your mobile phone, by typing a message from the Twitter site, or by using instant messaging from Jabber or Google Talk.

Keep in mind that when you sign up for Twitter via the Twitter Web site, your communication settings are automatically set to public. By keeping your communication settings to public, your updates automatically go to both your friends and to the public timeline, which is automatically posted and updated for public viewing every four minutes to the Twitter Web site. If you intend to use Twitter to build buzz about your business or generate traffic to your Web site, keep the public settings.
One of the ways you can use Twitter to generate Web site traffic and buzz is by sharing daily deals, special offers, or exciting product news with your readers. If you have an e-commerce Web site, you may want to send out a message each morning announcing your top-selling products. For example, “Yesterday we sold over 1,000 red widgets. We have less than that left in inventory, so order now to guarantee shipment.”

MyBlogLog Tricls

Adding a MyBlogLog widget to your Web site allows you to collect statistics about your Web site, including where your Web site visitors came from, what pages your visitors viewed, and what links the visitors clicked while on your page. Your Web site statistics are available through your MyBlogLog account page and can be retrieved based on any specified time frame. Although not a comprehensive Web site statistics program, the MyBlogLog widget provides you with meaningful data that you can use to better understand your visitors.
People can leave you public or private messages on your profile page, and you can leave public or private messages for others. Messages include your avatar, screen name, and a link back to your profile page. Leaving messages is a good strategy for encouraging others to visit your profile page and learn more about the Web sites you author.
Your profile page includes a feature that allows you to see the most recent members of the MyBlogLog community to visit the page. You should add as a contact any MyBlogLog members that visit your profile page, and you should also return the favor by visiting their profile pages.

Mybloglog

MyBlogLog, located at www.mybloglog.com, is a popular social networking service that includes a popular Web widget that you can install on your blog or content Web site. The MyBlogLog widget shows your visitors the most recent MyBlogLog members
who have visited your Web site, including each member’s avatar and screen name. The MyBlogLog community represents an eclectic group of individuals that are
interested in finding new Web sites. You can use the MyBlogLog widget and community to increase traffic to your Web site and build buzz around your Web site content.
In addition to displaying the MyBlogLog widget on your Web site, your MyBlogLog membership consists of a profile page that is made publicly available on MyBlogLog.com. Your MyBlogLog profile page can include lists of the Web sites you own and blogs you author, and a personal or business profile that you can use to actively build contacts from the MyBlogLog community. One of the keys to success using MyBlogLog to build buzz and generate traffic to your Web site is by adding as many relevant contacts to your profile page as possible. The more contacts you have, the more likely it is that your contacts will visit your profile page on a regular basis and learn more about you and your Web site. One way to actively build contacts on a regular bas is to add the MyBlogLog widget to your Web site.
Whenever a MyBlogLog user who is not a contact visits your Web site, you should immediately add that person as a contact. Another approach to building contacts is to
visit other Web sites that display the MyBlogLog widget because the Web site owner is likely to see your avatar and screen name and add you as a contact.

StumbleVideo

StumbleUpon has an online video service called StumbleVideo that can provide a large amount of traffic to your videos. StumbleVideo shows users online videos based upon user preferences along with popularity as determined by votes from other members of the StumbleUpon community.
Unlike StumbleUpon, StumbleVideo does not require registration, and you are not required to download the StumbleUpon toolbar to watch videos. Instead, you simply go to the video.stumbleupon.com Web site, select a video, and then click the Stumble button whenever you want to watch another video. StumbleVideo offers users several useful features including the ability to search for other popular videos and to share videos with friends via e-mail.
You do not submit videos to StumbleVideo. Instead, StumbleVideo gets videos from sources such as YouTube, Metacafe, MySpace TV, Google Video, and other popular video sites. Therefore, if you want to get into StumbleVideo, upload your video to one of the sites listed above. StumbleVideo is a great source for you to generate ideas for creating your own videos that you can submit to the popular video Web sites, as well as host on your own Web site.

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon is a peer and social networking technology that includes a toolbar that you install in your Web browser; you can use this toolbar to discover and rate Web pages, videos, photos, and news articles. The StumbleUpon service also allows you to submit your own Web pages, videos, photos, and news articles, all of which can help you generate buzz and traffic, and build backlinks to your Web site. As an Internet user you surf the Web and encounter countless Web sites throughout the day that you like and dislike. By installing and using the StumbleUpon toolbar, you can vote for Web sites you like and dislike simply by clicking the Thumbs Up button on the toolbar when you are on a Web site you like, and clicking the Thumbs Down button when you see a Web site you dislike.

In addition to voting on Web sites you come across on your own, the StumbleUpon toolbar allows you to randomly visit other Web sites by clicking the Stumble button. When you click the Stumble button, the StumbleUpon algorithm displays Web sites that you may find interesting based upon your personal interests and previous voting behavior. The Stumble button allows you to find cool Web sites and vote on whether you like them or not.
The key to generating buzz, traffic, and links from StumbleUpon is to make sure that your content is submitted and available to other StumbleUpon users. You may want to have other people submit your content so that you can vote positively on it and not come across to other StumbleUpon users as partial. The best kind of content to submit to StumbleUpon is entertaining, informative, or unique.

Excellence Blogger GreenTemplate

I really liked the template that made my eyes are not tired. In the USA alone, it was noted that there are over 20.9 million WordPress.com unique visitors vs. TypePad.com’s 7.2 million uniques. Internationally the numbers are further apart with WordPress.com at 97.8M vs. TypePad.com’s 16.8M.

For WordPress.org Mullenweg reports that as of today there are over 2.6 million active user-installed blogs “out there”.

Matt Asay of CNet.com aptly puts “a better word” out… open source is and will be good business. Unique page impressions are critical data for a lot of industries. You’ve got a site/service you’d want advertised online (?) the first thing you ask is “How many unique page visitors does your site attract?”

Here’s a quick run-thru of WordPress milestones:

Page views grew from 1.5 billion to 6.5 billion/month

1/3 of the page views come from VIPs like CNN and LOLCats

120-160 million global unique visitors per month

Two million new blogs created for the year

35 million new blog posts (up from 20 million)

Now regarding how the minor versions run-up to the big 2.7 version? Mullenweg says that it will be a slow yet steady work on releasing easier update/upgrade paths.

Mullenweg mentioned Microsoft, OSX, iPhone, Facebook platform as examples, and believes that good platforms need good self-updating systems. Automattic has a three-prong strategy for better updates: better community awareness, working with webhosts, and adding automatic upgrades functionality to WordPress. With the mantra “Because your Tumblr and Tweets, while clever, will not pay your bills”, SixApart aims to support online journalism. According to SixApart, “During a time when so many great journalists are worried about losing their jobs, we want to do what we can to help.”

Of course, a blog can’t replace a full-time writing gig, but it’s a start. A pretty good start, if you ask me, because those who try this program out get the following:

A free TypePad Pro account worth $14.95 per month. This is the service that powers big-name media blogs. Professional technical support is even included.

Enrollment in the Six Apart Media advertising program, ads “that pay a lot more than simple Google text ads.”

Promotion on Blogs.com, to jumpstart traffic, and a very effective way for those in the Journalist Bailout Program to cross-promote their sites.

The only thing journalists need to do to avail of this program is to send Six Apart the link to their last piece for a newspaper, magazine or broadcast journalism venue to bailout@sixapart.com. They say that this program might end soon, but there’s no word yet on a definite date, and response to the program has been overwhelming.

If they do want to get journalists to start blogging, this is a great start. Offering not only a free blogging platform, but also an advertising program to be able to profit from the blog is a brilliant PR move.

Six Apart launches TypePad Connect Beta

Six Apart has launched the beta version of TypePad Connect, a Disqus-style commenting service that includes MyBlogLog-like profiles. The new comment service has a sleek new interface and great features like threading, easy pagination, OpenID sign in, email notifications of replies and the ability to reply via email. The comments are protected by TypePad AntiSpam.

TypePad Connect lets you style your comments so that it will look the same way with the rest of your blog. It also features a Gravatar-like profile picture system. Apparently TypePad Connect is a way for Six Apart to create a service that helps bloggers connect with their readers and other bloggers, in a more open, more powerful, and more meaningful fashion.

Typepad Connect is also integrated with the new TypePad Profiles. TypePad Profiles takes advantage of things you’re already doing and automatically updates itself, to keep your profile up to date and interesting. So if you have your Twitter synced to your profile, your status will be updated to reflect your current Twitter update. And finally, feeds, Microformats, and Open ID is also supported by TypePad Profiles.

These new profiles and comments are not just available for TypePad bloggers but for ANY blogger or web site for free. TypePad Connect is available for all of the major blog platforms. That means if you’re on TypePad, Moveable Type, WordPress, Tumblr, or Blogger, you would be able to use this new service without paying a thing.

What do you think about this new service? Drop your thoughts in the comments.

Which Applications Do You Use?

Recently, the subject of applications relating to blogging, development, and more have come across my desk more than once.

The first was my own attempt at writing a free college software guide on College Crunch which then was noticed by Online College which built upon the list, adding more things that students (but really anyone) could and should use.

Then, I found another great post, on noupe, one of the blogs I frequent, relating to Mac Applications for Web Designers, and so the question then is, what do you all use as a blogger? For those that are interested in picking up what I am learning, please check out Devlounge.

It has me thinking though about blogging platforms. There are so many great options out there that I wonder how often people create their own anymore? Have we come to the point where one platform or another fulfills nearly every need, and those that program their own blog software do so only to prove that they can or are people still programming their own blogging platform because there is something missing from a feature or workflow standpoint?

I have thought about programming my own blogging software, but that is only because I don’t need something very complex, and so it would be easy to write, and would allow me to learn more about programming, and not because I am necessarily missing anything by using WordPress.

If you’ve thought about, or taken on the task of making your own blogging software, let me know why in the comments below.

Market your blog efficiently with Tweet Whistle

You can do all of the hard work researching topics and writing content for your blog but all of your hard work is worthless if no one will actually visit your blog and read your well thought out posts.

All blog owners should not only improve their writing and research skills, they should also develop their internet marketing skills. They should learn how to market their blogs so that they can entice people to visit their blog and continue reading the posts they make. A properly marketed blog is also a great source of income. Imagine getting more money from the ads that you put in your blog? That’s a benefit I’d love to get from my blogs.

The problem is that internet marketing is a subject that intimidates a lot of people. Personally, I don’t think that this should be a source of fear. Internet marketing is not really that hard especially if you have the tools to help make things easier for you. For example, Twitter is quite easy to use. The popular microblogging platform is now widely used as an internet marketing tool. Its popularity makes it an obvious choice to implement marketing efforts because of the number of people that can be reached by the marketing message. Because of its effectiveness as a marketing tool, it’s also a natural progression that independent tools are developed to further mine the capabilities of Twitter. Tweet Whistle is one of these tools that have unleashed the power of Twitter. Tweet Whistle is a marketing tool that allows you to market your blog in Twitter more easily by automating Twitter’s functions. With this application you can automatically target followers and even automate your Twitter posts. What’s more, Tweet Whistle is the most affordable Twitter marketing application you will find on the net. You can see for yourself how useful Tweet Whistle is by trying the trial demo, which you can download at http://www.tweetwhistle.com/.

But if you want the opportunity of using the full version of Tweet Whistle for free, you can join Tweet Whistle’s contest, wherein the winner will get a licensed copy of Tweet Whistle and a $25 cash prize to be paid through PayPal. To join the contest just do the following:
1.    Follow @thetoolsmith on Twitter

2. Just tweet the message below:

Just enter to win $25.00 and a free copy of “Tweet Whistle” Just follow @thetoolsmith and Retweet http://tweetwhistle.com

4 Blogging Topic Trends for 2010

2010 is just around the corner and I think it’s never too early to look at topics that could catch the netizens’ fancy.

The topics I’m recommending are ones that have shown a healthy rise in the last few months that is likely to carry over on to the next year. Here are four topics that may rise in 2010:

Television – Several new shows launched this year have definitely caught the viewing public’s attention. These shows include “Glee,” “V,” and “The Vampire Diaries” and these shows could gather more steam by next year and blogging about these shows with reviews could be beneficial in getting good traffic and possibly earnings.

Social Network Privacy – If we are to believe the online social networks’ data, more and more people are signing up and establishing their own online presences. This could also mean more compromised accounts and stolen identities. This topic could focus on a younger demographic that may need some resources on privacy and online reputation handling.

Social Games – We all know that games are big business but niche topics on social games like the ones from Zynga and Playfish are booming. Blogs on tips and tricks on FarmVille and Mafia Wars will definitely have an audience in my opinion.

Finance – The global financial sector is recovering and people may be interested in recovering their financial positions. If you have the know how and have the passion for writing, your financial blog could be 2010’s sleeper hit.

There may be other topics that will explode in December so this topics of 2010 blogging trends will be revisited.

10 Blogging Tips for 2009 to Make It Your Most Successful Blogging Year Ever

10 Blogging Tips for 2009 to Make It Your Most Successful Blogging Year Ever

Written by Yuwanda Black from Inkwell Editorial

With all the new internet marketing methods available, blogging has become a little bit “old hat” in the eyes of many. I mean, it’s not sexy like Facebook; it’s not as easy as Twitter and it certainly is not as glamorous as having a MySpace page.

In spite of all of this, blogging remains one of the most effective ways to brand your business online. So for this last day of 2008, I’m going to get back to basics, so to speak. Following are 10 reminders about blogging to keep in mind as you head into 2009.

Blogging in 2009: Going Back to Basics

Blogging Tip #1: Post Regularly. Readers will be more likely to follow your blog if you have a regular posting schedule. Post weekly, post bi-monthly, post monthly — it doesn’t matter what it is (although it should be at least once a week in my opinion) — but stick to a schedule.

Blogging Tip #2: Use Plugins. Plugins like “relevant posts”, “most popular posts” and “recent posts” make your blog more sticky because they encourage readers to hang around longer. The longer a visitor is on your blog, the better chance you have of converting them into a customer. And that, remember, is the goal when you’re in business.

Blogging Tip #3: Post from Experience. I like first-hand information. In fact, many web surfers are looking for this type of info. It’s no coincidence that “how to” information is the number one selling product on the web. Most of it comes from first-hand information.

So use case studies, write in the first person (eg, use “I”), tell your readers how you solved a particular problem, etc. I sell a lot of ebooks by doing just this. It lets readers know that you know what you’re talking about; hence, you become an authority voice in your niche.

Blogging Tip #4: Niche It. Speaking of niche – clearly define who your audience is and speak to them – and only them – directly. You will get ancillary customers/clients/readers as a matter of course. BUT, you should always blog with your core audience in mind.

Blogging Tip #5: Comment on Other Popular Blogs in Your Niche. Make relevant posts on other authority blogs in your niche. The key word here is r-e-l-e-v-a-n-t.

Blogging Tip #6: Write Well. Make your post long, make it short, make it mid-length, but by all means, write well. This cannot be taken for granted. I don’t care how salient your post is, if it’s poorly written, you will not be taken seriously. In fact, you can even damage your online reputation.

It’s probably no coincidence that the alphabet and sentence construction are among the first things we learn in school. It’s the foundation of communication — so don’t waste it; use it.

Blogging Tip #7: Market Your Blog. Don’t post it and forget it. This is your chance to use sexy marketing like social networking. Market your posts on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc.

Remember, once you start with social networking though, you have to engage with those communities. So when you start to incorporate social networking into your blog marketing, do it with this in mind.

Blogging Tip #8: Use a Clean Design. A blog doesn’t have to have all the latest gadgets to be effective. A simple, clean design – with good content – will compete with the flashiest design every time. Simplicity rocks!

Blogging Tip #9: Personalize Your Blog. Inject some personality. Let YOU come through!

Blogging Tip #10: Don’t Give Up. Blogging is tedious, boring, monotonous and downright draining at times. Once you’ve blogged for a while, there will be days when you just want to chuck it in favor of something more exciting.

But keep this in mind: in many cases success is not gained by the most talented, the most brilliant, or the most beautiful. All of these things help. But, success comes to those who simply “stick with it!”

Keep these blogging tips in mind as you head into the New Year and happy blogging in 2009

How to Install Google Analytics on Blogger

Wouldn’t it be nice to know how many people actually visited your blog each day? Do you focus exclusively on one topic or do you cover several related subjects in an attempt to “cast the biggest net” and capture a larger share of visitors? Once you’ve decided - how will you profit from your new blog?

To have a Niche Focus with Your Blog or Not?
